Shanghai’s stagnant gay nightlife scene is set to be given a new lease of life with the addition of SO Cafe Lounge – a brand spanking new, unpretentiously-designed lounge bar, adjacent to ICON – the city’s reigning dance club for the LGBT community.
SO Cafe Lounge is the latest concept by the trailblazing Angel Shanghai group, which has had a hand in shaping the city’s gay scene since the early 2000s. The new gay-but-straight-friendly watering hole sports a laid-back, chill vibe that is also a great place to people-watch. Knock back some highest-quality oysters and Italian pizza, hand-in-hand with a cocktail or wine, or enjoy desserts by up-and-coming patissier Bobo Lee.
Shanghaiist visited the bar after its soft launch last week and we’re happy to report it has already attracted a steady stream of young, urbane and upwardly-mobile creative types, fag hags, students and working professionals. It will be open after 1pm daily at the Shanghai Stadium from Friday December 18.
SO Lounge opens with a big bang, at a party featuring New York house music DJ and producer Eddie Elias. Since 2000, the New Jersey-based, Dominican-born DJ has been wowing audiences all around the world with his unique sound and masterful mixing, listen to his mixes on Soundcloud.
