Construction workers in Chuxiong city in Yunnan province got a horrifying surprise when they discovered two pythons snaking their way around the job site.
One of these enormous pythons measured 3.76 meters long and is estimated to be 100 years old, according to CCTV.
Discovering a century-old snake would be quite impressive, considering that most pythons live to be between 20 and 30 years old with the record standing at around 40 years.
It’s possible that CCTV biologists are over estimating a bit after getting caught up in the excitement of finding a giant Chinese giant salamander last week that is thought to be more than 200 years old.
The courageous construction team worked with police to lift the pythons out of the area.
The pythons will be released back into the wild. Forest police are scouting out a suitable natural environment for the two snakes, hopefully as far away from the general population as possible. The pythons are currently in the “reintroduction phrase.”
Snakes loose in the cityscape seems to be a recurring theme this week. Gotta catch ’em all?
