Wang Jianlin, the mainland’s richest man, has snapped up an impressive property on London’s “billionaire’s row” in an £80 million deal and plans to spend another £50 million on its refurbishment.
According to the Evening Standard‘s property market sources, Wang Jianlin snatched up the lease from the Crown Estate. The mid-Victorian mansion in question comprises 10 bedrooms and will receive 24-hour surveillance by the private police force which patrols the road.
Wang’s new neighbors will include Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abravomich and the Norwegian, Russian and Israeli Embassies. Formula One Group heiress Tamara Ecclestone also lives nearby, along with steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and French Ambassador Sylvie Bermann. The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge will be lurking nearby at Kensington Palace.
61-year-old Wang was named the richest man in mainland China this year by Forbes. As the chairman of the Dalian Wanda Group, Wang denies that his company has ties to President Xi Jinping despite it once being revealed that Xi’s sister had a stake in the conglomerate.
In addition to prestigious real estate transactions, Wang’s recent accomplishments also include schmoozing with Leo DiCaprio and pouring scorn on Chinese e-commerce companies. Wang’s son too has also made waves buying thousand dollar watches for his dog and enjoying extravagant nights out in Beijing.
