In yet another occurrence of Chinese travellers behaving badly, a man from Henan province reportedly attempted to steal over €5,000 from a Danish passenger’s luggage on board a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul on Monday. He was promptly arrested by Thai police after the plane landed in Bangkok.
Ma Qiquan, 45, initially had the nerve to deny the accusation of stealing, but was forced to surrender after another passenger showed footage he had shot of Ma’s illicit actions that showed the thief smoothly taking the luggage from the overhead compartment and later slipping it back in after raiding its considerable contents.
He was found in possession of €5,050 (US$5,425) as well as more money in other foreign currency.
While that’s a considerable sum to be carrying in one’s hand luggage, we have to say that Ma wins out on poorer life choice here, but hey, at least he wasn’t dumb enough to try and swipe the life jacket or pretend to show off a gun.
