A Thai company has paid $3,200 in compensation to one unfortunate Chinese tourist who went for quick peck on a python, and ended up getting way more fang than she bargained for.
Over the weekend, a video of the incident went viral on the Chinese internet, showing the long-haired woman leaning down for a quick kiss and the irritated python suddenly lunging up and latching straight onto her nose, refusing to let go as the crowd screams in horror around them.
According to the Phuket News, the video was shot at noon on Saturday in an unnamed animal park located next to the Phuket Zoo. The woman is a 29-year-old named Jin Jing. She was rushed to the Phuket International Hospital to receive treatment and stitches.
A picture of what her nose looked like after the attack has also gone viral.
The shy snake in question was a reticulated python, the world’s largest species of snake, but completely nonvenomous. It’s not clear if the woman was directed to kiss the snake or not.
Either way, the incident has sparked a considerable outcry from the animal rights community who are calling for the shutdown of Thai animal shows due to inhumane conditions.
