Cai Zhanjiang shocked car dealers in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, when he drove in a truck filled with 100,000 RMB to purchase a van worth 90,000 RMB.
At the sight of the cash pile, sales manager Gu Liyuan commented, “I have never seen so much cash in my life!” The staff at the dealership then teamed up to move more than a dozen boxes of small bills weighing half a ton into their shop.
Inside the boxes were batches neatly tied with rope, sorted by demonination, in total the whole haul added up to around 100,000 RMB.
What is he going to do with his new vehicle? Use it as a place to store more cash? Netizens praised Mr. Cai for his alleged thriftiness, but how he managed to obtain so much small change remains a mystery.
If you are coming down with a case of déjà vu, it’s probably because this kind of thing happens fairly frequently in China. For instance, in June, a man from Shenyang purchased a vehicle with 660,000 yuan in coins and 20,000 yuan in banknotes of small change saved up from buses visiting his gas station over the years.
