A desperate father has been spotted dressing himself up as a woman to sell flowers in a metro passage in Beijing in hopes of raising money for medical treatment for his son who suffers from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
According to NetEase, Dong Dajun, originally from Shandong, shows up in the same area every evening in order to collect money for his five-year-old son, while wearing a wig and long dress.
His son has received three rounds of chemotherapy and needs to undergo another eight rounds of treatment.
Dong told reporters that so far his son’s medical treatment has cost 210,000 yuan, including 140,000 yuan that he was forced to borrow from relatives and friends.
To try and save his son’s life, Dong came up with the idea of making a little extra money selling flowers after dark.
Facing expensive hospital bills, poor Chinese parents have managed to come up with inventive ways to try and save the life of their sick kids. Last year, in a very similar case, a 32-year-old father in Sichuan dressed up as a woman to sell sanitary pads at 20 yuan a pack to fund his leukemia-stricken daughter’s medical treatment.
Grief stricken parents and grandparents have also resorted to selling sex dolls on the roadside, giving out hugs and dressing as a horse.
