Fiery Cross Reef welcomed its first Chinese tourists to the disputed South China Sea islands, as families of the frontier soldiers stationed on the island fly out for a visit.
The arrival of the first batch of tourists comes after the Chinese government allowed two civil airlines to land on the island, referred to by the Chinese as Yongshu Reef, to test if the runway complied with civil aviation standards.
About a week earlier, images of cute flight attendants posing for pictures at one of the newly-built airstrips that China developed on the artificial island went viral.
The island’s visitors were photographed in high spirits as they explored the latest frontier for the Chinese tourism industry.
