A 29-year-old train attendant from Zhejiang seized the last quiet weekend ahead of the Spring Festival period to propose to his girlfriend who was travelling by train through Jiangsu province.
Originally from Anhui, Zhang Li joined the army after his college graduation. At the end of 2013 he was retired and then began working as a train attendant on the Shanghai to Hangzhou high-speed train.
According to NetEase, Zhang met his girlfriend, Xiao Yang, on a blind-date over a year ago and the lovebirds have been together since then.
In order to arrange the once-in-a-lifetime proposal, Zhang boarded the train between Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, armed with a ring and a bouquet of 99 red roses. Some of Zhang’s colleagues also ditched their off time and took the train to help him with the proposal.
Xiao Yang said yes to Zhang’s proposal in front of both passengers and colleagues. After spending some time together, Xiao Yang returned to Anhui while Zhang will remain in Hangzhou to work over the Spring Festival period. Zhang told reporters that he and his girlfriend will tie the knot after the holiday.
Millions of travelers will begin criss-crossing the country for the arduous trip home to reunite with family over Spring Festival. The busy period for the railways will begin on January 24 and end on March 3, lasting a total of 40 days.
