Full 4G and WiFi coverage will be blessing all Shanghai Metro stations as early as June of this year.
Transportation officials say the addition will happen after safety tests to rule out signal conflicts with station control systems.
The announcement has come on the heels of the announcement of China’s three-year-plan for nationwide 4G coverage by 2018.
Currently, metro stations in Shanghai are covered by 2G, with 3G accessible only in lines 12 and 13. Passengers using smartphones presently are unable to access the internet in most stations, but come June, a new era will dawn.
You know what this means? By 2020, you will never be more than 600 meters away from sweet, sweet underground 4G.
