For all those not in the know, in Changchun city, Jilin province, there’s a huge muscular naked man statue in the city’s cultural square. He’s actually pretty famous, and rather hard to miss, being four meters tall, weighing a ton, stretching his arms to the sky and being, well, naked.
But our naked friend enjoyed a new kind of attention last Saturday, as the iconic nudity was covered up by some fetching flowery pants. The image was shared like crazy online, and as it turns out the statue was dressed up by some young dudes who claim that they weren’t trying to make anyone laugh but instead expressed that it was art.
And this isn’t the first time statue has been dressed up, as more than six years ago that statue was dressed up in flowery underpants. This time, the guys took the effort to couture some pants that fit him perfectly, hoping to entertain local residents before the new year, reports NetEase.
According to one resident exercising near the statue, on Saturday he saw some a group of young men pointing out the statue, pulling out a huge pair of flowery pants and proceeding to lend him a bit of modesty.
“They put on the pants, took some pictures and then took them off. The whole thing took about half an hour,” he said.
The history of Changchun’s symbolic statue began on June 2006, when it was erected. Ever since its unveiling, the statue has attracted much comment and parody online. In fact, this year’s pants are pretty PG in comparison to previous antics, like in September 2009, when the statue was seen wearing a condom or in June 2007, when its private parts were tied up with red cloth, and the most grievous instance in March 2013, when the statue was subjected to having wine bottles hanging from his, er, bits.
