It looks like China has another ghost city to map out — at least for this week — Beijing.
While tourist spots across the country are welcoming waves upon waves of travelers, the majority of Beijing appears to be populated only by tumbleweeds. This is a yearly phenomena that occurs as millions of migrant workers leave the capital city to spend the Spring Festival holiday with their families back at home.
Beijing was recently named the most congested city in China. Take a look at some snapshots of the city’s streets this week, compared with pictures from the same location earlier this year:
Meanwhile, gone from the metro are fainting foreigners and pantless riders, it’s just you and the Kung Fu Panda advertisements.
Finally, here are some aerial shots of the city on Chinese New Year’s Eve. Notice the lack of cars, compared with say, World Car-Free Day.
If you’ve never been to the city, now is still not the time to go.
