Just when you were starting to think it was safe to travel on the subway again, a photo has hit Weibo showing an old woman encouraging a boy to just go ahead and take a piss on the train floor.
A Shanghai Weibo user posted the picture early on Thursday morning and it was later picked up by Shanghai Morning Post’s account, where it has since attracted 2,500 mostly angry comments from netizens:
“These are the kinds of people that hold back social progress. I propose that the next time this kind of situation occurs, the persons involved and their family should immediately be banned from using public transportation facilities for one year! If you inconvenience others like that, you deserve to be inconvenienced yourself,” writes one netizen.
“At this rate, the next generation will be even worse! We must educate these people,” another netizen commented.
However, much of the discussion has centered on where the auntie and kid are from. Some netizens were quick to say that they were migrants, but others have shot back that everyone is already likely home for the holidays, so they must be Shanghai natives.
“People from Shanghai believe that everybody without manners must be from someplace else,” wrote one Weibo user.
“I don’t care where they are from, this kind of behavior demands criticism!” diplomatically responded another user.
Last week, a woman was photographed taking a dump inside a Hong Kong MTR station, sparking a wave of criticism against mainland tourists, not witnessed since Piss Gate in 2014.
Over the years, metro carriage floors have been used as toilets, quite a few times.
