In a bold bid to freak out everyone, a mall in Shanghai is planning to open a giant 5-story dragon-esque tube slide later this month.
The beast can be found at the Printemps Department Store in Pudong. It’ll be ready for action after the Lantern Festival on February 22th.
However, many netizens say that they won’t be in line to be one of the brave first to go down. “I feel like it will cause deaths, seriously,” reads the top comment on the Weibo article, with more than 6,500 likes, SCMP reports.
“It’s very scary, I feel like if you die in there, it’ll take a while for people to find out,” agreed another, earning 4,500 likes. “It’ll be more fun if it was transparent,” suggested yet another. Meanwhile, some were more preoccupied with more trivial concerns: “What if someone farted inside?”
According to Shanghai Daily, real life visitors also expressed doubts. “My son was excited and very interested to have a try, but I still have some concerns on its safety,” shared one mother.
Not only parents, but younger generations also apparently fear for their lives. “It is a stunt of the department store, and the slide seems to be very dangerous,” lamented twenty-something Jack Shen. “Some people will probably get stuck inside.”
Alarmingly, Pudong’s Market Supervision & Management Bureau claims no compulsory inspections are required for the slide. However, the Printemps store operator has had safety tests ordered, so… that’s thoughtful.
What could possibly wrong? Seriously though, we are pretty excited about this, way more fun than taking the escalator.
