China’s escalator epidemic returned to Nanjing yesterday, where a 3-year-old boy may lose three of his fingers after getting his hand caught inside an escalator. Unsurprisingly, his parents weren’t around at the time.
According to NetEase, this latest incident occurred at a mall in Nanjing. Witnesses say that the boy was playing by himself near the escalator when his hand got caught in the machine. Mall security responded quickly, stopping the escalator and rescuing the kid.
He was rushed to the hospital where things do not look good. Doctors say that he severely injured his hand and may end up losing three fingers to the accident.
Reportedly, the boy’s father and mother are both shopowners at the mall, and so presumably were busy with their business while their son was getting his hand mangled inside an escalator.
Of course, this follows last year’s high-profile escalator epidemic, that also seems to be going strong into this year.
Malls in China may soon have to start building safer ways of moving between floors.
