On the fourth day of Chinese New Year, disaster struck in the city of Duyun, Guizhou province when an 8-year-old boy accidentally fell into a lake while roller skating.
Almost immediately, a 50-year-old woman plunged into the water after him. She grabbed the boy, brought him back to shore and helped him up the embankment. Urging onlookers to take care of the boy, she then promptly swam to the other side of the lake.
After wringing out her shoes, she then preceded to walk home as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
Local media caught up with her to ask for an interview, but she declined, saying that it was a trivial matter at best, Tencent reports.
This woman has much in common with another attention-shy hero from Chongqing, who dived into a freezing river last month, fully clothed, to save a drowning four-year-old, and then just walked home in the cold.
The hero Duyun deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
