Later this year, online sex product retailer Chunshuitang will be releasing China’s first “virtual reality” sex toys.
Originally a developer of IoT products, Chunshuitang announced earlier this year an investment of 10 million yuan in research and development for a planned range of virtual reality (VR) sex products set to come out this June, reports TechNode.
Founded in 2002, Chunshuitang specializes in sex toys, adult costumes and health care products. To date, it’s developed 20 “smart” sex products in-house that can connect to smart-phones for collecting data.
Here’s founder Lin Degang’s rundown of company plans, including expansion to China’s feast of “love hotels,” and the importance of virtual sex partners:
We found a demand for smarter sex toys from our consumers, but there were no products like that out in the market.
Through big data analysis, we’ll get to better understand our users’ demands and R&D new products based on their needs.
In 2013, China’s love hotel market grew up to 32 billion RMB size. Every day we have 1 million people buying our products online and we also wanted to serve them to our offline space.
Sometimes couples have different desires in sex. A virtual reality-created lover can be a good partner without having to break current relationship.
According to Ctrip, Chinese love hotel bookings exploded this Valentine’s, with 50% more bookings than last year’s V-day, ergo tapping into that market is indeed in Chunshuitang’s best interests.
Currently the Chunshuitang website only sells one VR product, but there’ll be more where that came from soon enough to edge out whatever’s going on here.
Said products are to be exported to the US, Russia, Europe, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Btw, after recently raising funds to 80 million yuan, Chunshuitang is now the biggest online adult retailer in China.
