If you thought your Chinese New Year sucked, just wait until you hear this.
For nine days, a 63-year-old woman was trapped at the bottom of a dried up well, miraculously she managed to survive by drinking her own urine and gnawing on tree bark.
On February 2nd, Wang Huanzhen was out collecting firewood with her husband when she accidentally fell into a well in the backwoods of Sichuan. Her husband made it back home alone, but when his wife failed to show up, he called the police, People’s Daily reports.
The whole family spent the entire Chinese New Year searching for Wang, even traveling to neighboring towns. Finally, on February 10th, a shepherd happened to pass by the industrial park where Wang had fallen and heard her feeble cries. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, with a fractured right leg and rib.
According to Wang, her survival instinct had kicked in and in order to avoid dehydration she drank her own urine, a tip she learned from a first aid course in after the Wenchuan earthquake that struck in 2008.
“I think it was my positive thinking that kept me alive,” she says. “I don’t care if you laugh, to save my life, I drank my own urine!”
Thankfully, Wang is now recovering and back with her family after the ordeal.
