Already multiplying at a fearsome rate, Shanghai Metro is planning to grow a further 250km by 2025.
That’ll be a total of 9 new lines added to the already expansive network, including subway and intercity rail, reports People’s Daily. They’ll be emerging from 2017 onwards, according to a public notice from Shanghai’s government on Thursday.

So, yeah, even bigger than that.
Shanghai’s metro currently encompasses 617km and 366 stations, plus a 29km maglev line. The new plans entails an overachieving expansion of 40%, so we’ll have to wait and see if this also means an expansion in stories about more incidents of passengers behaving badly.
