In what must be every pet owner’s worst nightmare, a Jiangsu man’s dog was cooked and eaten by his own employee earlier this month.
SCMP reports that on February 13, a factory worker in Xuzhou, surnamed Zhang, found a Pembroke Welsh Corgi wandering around the public toilets at his workplace. Mistaking it for a stray, Zhang deemed it to be a suitable meal and proceeded to beat the animal to death with a wooden stick.
Later that night, Zhang and his roommates shaved, skinned, and cooked the dog, and ate it the next day. They were then red-faced upon returning to work to discover “missing” flyers posted by their own boss, surnamed Wang, offering a 8,000 yuan reward for information.
After receiving a phone call from a witness to the dog’s murder, Wang visited Zhang’s staff quarters and discovered proof of the crime in the form of fur on a knife and on the floor.
“I thought it was a stray, I had no clue it was so precious,” Zhang claimed, because beating dogs to death is fine so long as they’re not already owned by anyone (or in some cases, even then!).
Although Zhang and his cronies offered compensation for the loss, Wang was not appeased and hauled them all off to the police — along with firing their asses, unsurprisingly.
Zhang was charged with theft, but has since been released on bail, “wild” animals better watch out.
Apparently, Wang bought the then month old Corgi last May for his daughter, who is probably now scarred for life and should enroll in therapy.
