Last Saturday, an unfortunate Sichuan villager was steamed inside a barrel by a pair of local “doctors,” who claimed that the treatment would cure her illness.
As it turns out, it didn’t work.
Not even a little bit. Nope.
The woman in question, Li Mo, had been ill for a number of years and various cures had all proved unsuccessful, according to another villager. Unfortunately, she was willing to try anything.
ECNS reports that at around 9pm on Saturday, neighbors ran to Li’s home after hearing shrieks. The two witch doctors calmly explained that the screams weren’t coming from Li, but from the demons inside her body being painfully exorcised.
Thankfully, the villagers decided not to take the pair at their word and tried to free Li from the steaming barrel. However, her face had turned black and she was unable to stand. Medical workers soon arrived, but Li’s condition was too severe and all rescue efforts failed.
Police took the two witch doctors into custody and investigations are underway.

Superstitious folk healings remain popular in parts of China and are used to try to cure everything from homosexuality to sore joints. Remember, the best medicine is a tall glass of owl wine.
