Who doesn’t occasionally try to bend the rules a bit? As it turns out when bending said rules, making sure you’re not being watched is pretty important, as one lady who tried to get past the ticket barrier inside the Shanghai Metro would certainly tell you.
Last Sunday, a blue-eyed and blonde-haired foreigner attempted to duck under one of the turnstile exits at the South Shaanxi Road Station. However, secret agent woman she was not. She was quickly spotted and stopped by a staff member.
After being caught, she explained that she had lost her ticket, but was promptly informed via translator that she had violated the rules and was slapped with a nice fine of 84 yuan, The Paper reports.
This isn’t the first instance of foreign fare dodgers in Shanghai. Last October, one laowai dude got caught jumping the barrier inside the Changshou Road Station. He too tried to get out of it, but was fined 84 yuan nonetheless. Rules are rules.
This standard fine is the equivalent to five times the maximum fare on the Shanghai Metro in addition to a replacement ticket.
Metro officials would like to remind us all that anybody who has lost tickets or is experiencing any kind of trouble can always go to the service center for assistance.
