A Shanghai hospital has made headlines recently by making a strange request. In its announcement last month, Shanghai Children’s Hospital encouraged healthy locals to donate their feces. Don’t worry, they have a good reason.
Your shit will go toward researching Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT), a process in which microorganisms from healthy people’s poo are transplanted into patients who are suffering from intestinal diseases or digestive disorders.
A doctor at the hospital said that they have been treating children with the method for two years, but are beginning to run low on precious supplies, so have asked the public for help.
If you are interested, potential donors must be between 18 to 40 years old and preferably have a regular poop schedule. They also need to undergo rounds of clinical assessment.
10 to 15 samples are needed per month. Donors must take their donations to the hospital within two hours.
And it turns out your shit isn’t worthless after all. For the effort you’ll receive 200 yuan a month to cover transportation costs, but you can always just use the subway.
