A female sanitation worker in Sichuan was beaten up last month after she unintentionally splashed some dirty water on a rather vengeful woman walking nearby.
The street cleaner, Ye Fuying, says that she was working near a local market as usual. As she was gathering up some vegetables that had fallen into a puddle, some water happened to splash up and land on a middle-aged woman buying groceries, Sina reports.
“The woman flew into a rage. I apologized to her and tried to explain that I hadn’t meant to do that,” she told reporters.
Later on, the furious woman returned with two men. The younger man then gave Ye a slap and kicked her in anger.
When police arrived on the scene, the troublemakers were gone. The police immediately sent Ye to hospital.
Police found that the two men were the woman’s husband and son. The son has been detained for eight days and fined 400 yuan for his actions, Tencent reports.
Perhaps this incident will ignite yet more soul searching about how street cleaners should be treated.
