A curious wild panda found itself in a bit of trouble over the weekend being chased down by a pack of dogs outside a Sichuan village, but thanks to the assistance of some local villagers it was able to return safe and sound to the forest.
While out grazing cattle, villagers in Liangshan heard some dogs barking nearby. Seconds later, they were shocked when in the distance they noticed a chubby panda running as fast as his pudgy legs would take him up a hillside, with several dogs in hot pursuit.
Local media reports that the villagers acted quickly to drive off the dogs as the frightened panda bounded back into the safety of the woods.
“That panda ran so slowly,” recalls one unimpressed villager.
Despite all the incredible research we’ve done on pandas over the years, their fitness stats are still under debate, with some claiming that giant pandas are slower than a jogging human, while others claim that the animal can reach a top speed of 20 to 25mph.
Over the past year or so, wild pandas have been spotted stealing honey, crossing roads and even masturbating. While this one didn’t seem to fare too well against a couple of dogs, we still wouldn’t recommend getting too close… unless you want to earn 500,000 RMB the hard way that is.
