If guanxi can get you a raise in China it seems that photoshopping yourself into your dream holiday can get you a free trip in Kenya.
Yes folks, a girl in Kenya named Seve Gat wanted to go to China so much that she photoshopped herself there, with some great shots on the Great Wall and in front of the Temple of Heaven uploaded onto Facebook.
There’s even one with her posing in front of a Kenya Airways plane, saying “I have left the country to China.”
But Gat didn’t expect her dream to come true until Sam Gichuru, a Kenyan entrepreneur and CEO actually made it happen. Seeing her post on Facebook, he encouraged his friends to help Gat get to China.
“I like dreamers because I’m a dreamer and my weekend dream is your ticket to Hong Kong (or Beijing), China, if you were serious, I mean really serious, I have good news for you, get your passport ready because your dreams are about to come true,” he wrote.
And in a fairytale twist Gat does actually seem to be coming to China. After thanking Gichuru for fulfilling her dreams, she also warned others not to fall for scams, as someone else has opened a copycat Facebook account. Perhaps they wanted to bag a free trip too?
But Gichuru has also made it clear that he will only help Gat, stating: “To the rest, please don’t Photoshop yourself, it won’t work.”
The story has become so popular online that the hastag #WhereIsSeveGatsNow turned into a trending topic, though not without well-aimed sarcasm at her photoshop skills and parodies of her, er, original work.
