Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of grand proposals, but few as thoughtful as this one from Zhengzhou on Saturday in which a man proposed to his girlfriend aboard the exact same local bus that they met on six years ago.
Li Chong recalls that on the afternoon of March 12th, 2010, he was captivated when he spotted a pretty lady in a white shirt enter the No. B1 local bus and sit down beside him. He watched as she read her book and occasionally stroked her long hair.
Apparently, she was so absorbed in her book, that she did not notice Li intently staring at her. After five stops, Li decided to just go for it.
“It’s the bravest thing that I’ve done in my whole life,” Li says. “I had no idea what I was going to say.”
After a quick conversation, it turned out that they were both going to the same place (or so he says), so the two left the bus together. They have been together ever since.
To make his special proposal, Li rented that same bus, No. B1, and invited his friends on board to witness the event, Sina News reports.
His friends pretended to be regular passengers, while Li arranged that he and his sweetheart would sit in the same seats that they did six years before. At the right stop, Li’s family and friends swarmed around as he knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
She said yes and the bus erupted into cheers.
Naturally, thousands of web users went online to compliment the young man on his bravery, creativity and flair for the dramatic.
One netizen @水瓶座木头熊 commented: “Destiny is amazing. Six years! I truly admire this man’s persistence in pursuing his love.”
“I’d like to give him a thumbs up for his courage. His girl looks beautiful,” echoed another user @名字就是一个代号而已
“One of my colleagues met her husband on the bus too. What destiny it was! I think I should start taking the bus more frequently as well,” @夏_之沫 joked.
So, how does this compare to last year’s standout proposal of a Beijing boyfriend asking his girlfriend to marry him with a meat bouquet? How about the year before when a Guangdong plumber walked two kilometers in a two-piece swimsuit to propose to his girlfriend, saying that while he was neither rich nor terribly handsome, he would provide for her the best he could.
Romance lives on.
