Thanks to a money-conscious 8-year-old boy, six people have been rescued from one hell of a pyramid scheme in Jiangxi province that had them trapped inside a residential room.
Sina News reports that the six saps were rescued after they wrote “help” (救命) on banknotes and then slipped them out the window. An alert kid outside happened to notice the notes and immediately ran to tell his mom, who called the police.
According to local police, there were a total of 12 people involved in this pyramid scheme, six of them were held prisoner, while the other half ran the business. Police have sent the victims home and are holding the masterminds in detention while they investigate just what the heck was going on.
Pyramid schemes in which gullible people are slowly lured into a scam until they find themselves trapped by the money they owe are fairly common in China. But, literally imprisoning victims inside a room, that’s a bit less common.
However, this just goes to show that with enough money you can get yourself out of any scam.
