China’s best bromance returns! This time though it’s not all inspiring moments and innocent pratfalls, the dynamic duo are facing some serious trouble.
When we last met our heroes — Jia Haixia, a blind man, and Jia Wenqi, his buddy with no arms — they were at the peak of their success, celebrating the planting of nearly 10,000 trees over the last 14 years with a shady forest picnic.
The pair’s mission began in 2001, when they decided to devote their lives to selflessly saving their village of naysayers from a possibly devastating flood by turning a once-barren wasteland into a thriving forest. While it may have taken some time, by seamlessly working together, some 14 years later the pair had mostly succeeded in their impossible mission.
Last year, their inspirational story went viral, and people from all across China pledged to help them in their fight to make the world a greener place.
But it turns out that people are liars. They pair says that they have received very little outside help on their project, which has also recently ran into a significant snag.
NetEase reports that after successfully foresting one 3-hectare stretch of riverbank, they are now focused on planting on a slope. However, with no water source in the area, they have to trek two kilometers and back to water their saplings.
They are hoping for tangible help in building a well; however, considering last year’s outpouring of empty promises it seems unlikely they will be getting it any time soon.
This has all been a crushing disappointment to the two Jias. They say fellow villagers, who had stopped mocking them after they became a national sensation, are doubting them once again. Even Jia Haixia’s wife doesn’t believe they will be able to accomplish their goal.
Still, these two planted a fucking forest with only a single pair of arms and pair of eyes between them. We are pretty sure that they will eventually be able to overcome any obstacle in their way, and the next story we write about them will be the Return of the Jedi to this one’s Empire Strikes Back.
