Standing in front of a crowd of curious spectators, a Henan huckster shocked onlookers by making cuts in a live rooster’s legs; however, simply by adding some magic elixir, voila! The rooster could walk once again.
In the middle of the circle of spectators, he showed off the ingredients to his tonic, dead alligators, snakes, turtles and rare mushrooms and plants, all piled inside a plastic tray on a table.
Onlookers were invited forward to take a closer look at the animal carcasses and check for authenticity.
Witnessing the miracle with their own eyes, some in the crowd chose to sample the magic elixir, sprinkling a bit on their ailing body parts. Apparently satisfied with the effects, some older people bought a bottle from the vendor.
Traditional Chinese Medicine continues to be popular across the country, particulary in rural areas. In January, Weibo users were witness to one of TCM’s most bizarre concoctions — owl wine, guaranteed to get rid of the shakes.
But is it really worth it?
