In the continuing quest for the perfect selfie, people in Nanjing have been spotted recently kicking, climbing and just generally wrecking the city’s famous cherry trees.
Images of their actions have been circulated on Chinese social media, with many netizens lashing out against their “shameful” and “uncivilized” behavior.
“Chinese living abroad are called ‘Chinese pigs’ while those who remain in China are called ‘Chinese monkeys,'” wrote @JaconsonPW, referencing the recent Virgin Air controversy.
“Will these people read these reports? Will they feel ashamed for their uncivilized behavior?” wondered another netizen.
“So, in the year of the monkey everyone turns into a monkey?” joked user @米乐君
“People living in an agricultural society can not fit themselves into an industrial society,” @bountiful hypothesized.
