An elderly woman has become the subject of scorn and ridicule online after a video went viral showing her refusing to get up from the Chongqing sidewalk after being “hit” by a toy car.
In the video, the granny pleads for an ambulance while holding on tight to the tiny vehicle, preventing a hit-and-run. Meanwhile, the careless driver, a baby girl, looks on, presumably wondering if this will permanently tarnish her driving record.
The granny can be heard arguing with the child’s mother about who was at fault, so far, no video has been released of the accident.
Netizens have gone online to gleefully ridicule the ridiculous situation:
“Driving on the sidewalk without a license, that kid is done for,” one netizen joked.
“Is she going to request compensation in the form of candy from the baby?” another netizen wondered.
“You can tell by the way she is sitting that granny took a dive,” another web user asserted.
However, it actually turns out that the woman was in fact sent to the hospital and is receiving treatment for a fractured arm following the “accident,” Sohu News reports.
Watch the video below:
If this old woman did decide to take an opportunistic dive, she certainly wouldn’t be the first one. The Chinese term pengci (碰瓷) was invented to describe those increasingly common situations in which pedestrians throw themselves in front of cars (or bikes), looking for some compensation.
Some are better at it than others:
