In a rather gruesome turn of events, a young man’s corpse was discovered earlier this month on the embankment of a lake in Shenzhen, and police think it looks an awful lot like murder.
The corpse of 21-year-old Xiaolin, a third year student at local technical school, was found to have been bound, his body weighed down by dumbbells, and his pack filled to the brim with stones, Oriental Daily reports.
Xiaolin, who had plans to begin an internship this month, was reported as missing for 14 days after school authorities alerted his family.
By pouring through local CCTV footage, authorities were able to determine his last known location as a tourist center on the southern side of the lake. According to his family, the footage shows Xiaolin entering the tourist center on March 7th, sometime between 8:40 and 8:50 p.m., and then exiting at around 9:00 p.m.
An autopsy has confirmed his death from drowning, and an investigation is ongoing.
