Images have been released online, showing a male teacher at a Guangxi middle school with no clothes on, assaulting a female student on campus on Monday afternoon during an episode of “temporary insanity.”
The incident occurred in broad daylight in front of numerous teachers and students. The 30-year-old man’s suspected sexual assault plans were foiled when several other teachers arrived on the scene and dragged him off the young girl, according to accounts given by witnesses online.
In a statement, the local government said that the man is surnamed Huo and worked as a lab administrator at the Taiping Middle School. He had been diagnosed with periodic mental episodes in 2011. However, over the next two years, he had no further episodes and was deemed “mentally stable.”
Following his treatment, the school arranged for him to work only at the school lab, instead of teaching and being in direct contact with students. For the last five years, Huo has displayed no symptoms or signs of his previous mental illness and was not considered a danger to students.
Police have launched an investigation. The girl was not physically harmed in the attack, while Huo has been sent to the hospital for treatment by his family.
