A handsome Chinese airline pilot successfully attracted over 64,000 fans on Weibo by broadcasting live from the cockpit during his flights. Unfortunately, some followers were more blown away by his flagrant disregard for safety regulations than his good looks.
Screencaps from his live vids went viral on Weibo yesterday afternoon, sparking widespread outrage online and swift action from the airline involved.
“Why are passengers told to turn off their digital devices on flights, but pilots can just ignore this rule,” one netizen posted, via Shanghai Daily.
Overnight, the man was determined to be a new Air China assistant pilot, who flew numerous international routes, including, most recently from Beijing to Rome. According to Sina, the airline issued a statement earlier today stating that the pilot has been suspended, because the viral shitstorm online may impact his emotions in the air, and he will face harsh punishment for his poorly thought out actions.
Meanwhile, since the story broke, he has managed to gain another 6,000 or so fans on his Weibo account, but all of his pictures and videos have been deleted. Alas.
Well, at least now Air China is known for something more than diarrhea-inducing biscuits.
