Recently, some rather graphic statues have been erected in a couple of parks in Xi’an, leaving visitors feeling a bit uncomfortable. Let’s see if they do anything for you:
While some netizens have applauded the erotic “art,” others said that it wasn’t appropriate for their kids to see two sculptures going at it, hard. Much less climb through them while they are in the act.
“You call this art? Shameful!” one netizen wrote.
“Seriously, what artistic value does this have? It’s pornographic,” another critic agreed.
“You see this kind of art in countries around the world, but in China, many people think it’s lewd. They have no culture,” another netizen shot back.
We will have to wait and see how long these sculptures are allowed to stay up. If they are allowed to remain in coitus and unclothed, then they can likely look forward to getting their not-so-private parts fondled to discolorment by passersby, who want to get in on the action:
Such was the fate of Yang Guifei, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, and Yu the Great’s wife (right in front of the ancient ruler too), whose exposed breasts have been rubbed raw by handsy tourists. Of course, there is a modest solution to all this.
