In our current age of innovation, ingenious new inventions are emerging each and every day to help make our lives easier; however, some people have more troubling adapting than others to this torrent of technological progress.
In a move that would make Marco Polo proud, Hangzhou has recently installed some hi-tech trash cans around its scenic West Lake. Costing 30,000 yuan each, these puppies are six times the size of old-fashioned trash bins and contain a solar-powered mechanical compressor that crushes the rubbish inside, local news reports.
While this all may seem pretty neat, it is significantly less cool for garbage collectors, who make their living scrounging around for choice pieces of trash, because apparently these newfangled gadgets are pretty much impossible to scavenge from.
One frustrated 43-year-old scavenger simply couldn’t take it anymore. After losing another tin can to the future, he kicked at the trash bin in anger, breaking it loose, and then pushed it into the famous lake like it was a car driven by some guy looking for his mobile phone.
For his defiant stand against technological progress, police have charged the man with damaging public property, meaning he could be fined or put in jail. When he gets out, he should move to Xi’an.
