Yesterday afternoon a man with a knife executed a series of attempted robberies in downtown Shanghai that the city will be talking about for years to come.
His trail of terror stretched from Xietu East Road to South Bus Station Road, logically beginning at a life insurance company on Xietu Road, Xinmin News reports. Unfortunately for him, the company had security guards, who frightened him and his fruit knife away. Hey, first times are always a little rough.
Next he tried a supermarket, flashing his weapon at the clerk on duty, however, once again he was chased away, this time by fellow shoppers, who were presumably in a hurry. Not great, but he’s getting better…
And the third time was a charm! The man stepped in to a neighborhood vegetable market and threatened one of the sellers with his knife, snatching away the 7.7 yuan she had on her and then making a run for it.
However, he didn’t get far. Thankfully, Shanghai police quickly caught up to him and ended his crime spree before he could take any more small change. Police said that the man was from Sichuan, but haven’t released any other information at this time. He is now in custody, so you can walk the streets without fear.
He is also now in the Shanghai criminal Hall of Shame, with the bank robber who was defeated by an auntie with a mop, the bank robber who simply got laughed at by the teller he was trying to rob and the thief who snatched a woman’s phone on the subway only to jump back into the metro carriage.
