Even your girlfriend doesn’t like shoes as much as this guy from Hubei, who was recently arrested after stealing 160 pairs of women’s shoes. Rather than the fashion or comfort, he’s in it for the smell.
The shoes, along with some underwear and clothes, belonged to female employees working at a company near to where the man lived, Sohu reports. In a statement, the company explained: “We had five or six employees reporting that their shoes and various other items had gone missing, so we installed a surveillance camera.”
However, the sneaky man was still able to avoid detection. With their employees running low on footwear, the desperate company finally turned to the police for help.
Several days later, police caught a man surnamed Yang, who had just stolen two pairs of shoes. Upon further inspection inside his home, they found shoes on the balcony, under the bed and in the closet — amounting to 159 pairs in total.
Reportedly, Yang specialized in stealing shoes that were left out to dry on the sidewalk. “The odor makes me happy,” he explained. To each his own.
Netizens couldn’t help but comment on the absurdity of the crime:
“If he smelled my shoes, he definitely would no longer have this fetish,” wrote @橙子来一打不要说不给.
“Good thing he doesn’t like the odor of women’s poo,” wrote @嘦一句神回复.
However, police are taking this crime seriously, “While people with these types of fetishes may not pose an immediate danger to society, they are a hidden threat. If anyone sees this type of behavior, he or she should report it immediately.” Got that?
Rather than ladies’ footwear, pervs are more likely to steal underwear, to “snuggle and smell.” Storage methods for one’s panty haul varies. Some prefer to keep things nice and tidy, while others just stuff them in the attic until the celing caves in under the weight of all the stolen underwear.
