Guangzhou is apparently throwing its hat into the ring for the tile of “Venice of China,” with floodwaters consuming downtown streets today following heavy rains and thunderstorms the night before.
Images have gone viral on Chinese social media showing the soaked city and its residents trying their damnedest to make it to work, either by bus or by boat. Check out some of the best pictures below:

Actually, water transport is a smart investment in Guangzhou. In 2013, the city was ranked by “Nature Climate Change” as the most vulnerable city to flooding in the world out of 136 other coastal contenders. The study estimated that by 2050, the city could be looking at $13.2 billion of damage a year.
