Have you ever tried planking? No, not the one where you simply lie on your face in a odd location for jokes, the one you try in the gym and curse your lack of upper body strength as your whole body tingles with pain. That one.
Planking for two minutes is more than enough hell for most people, but what about 8 HOURS?
Meet Mao Weidong, our 45-year-old Beijing SWAT team member and master planker, who smashed the previous world record (which was also held by him by the way) by planking for 8 hours and 1 minute, NetEase reports. The previous record was a mere 4 hours and 26 minutes, which was set two years ago. Way to improve, right?
What’s more, Mao chose to end at 8 hours, 1 minutes and 1 second for a specific reason: he wanted to commemorate the 1st of August, the PLA’s b-day.
The event took place at a hotel in Beijing on Saturday, and Mao wasn’t without competition either, as a US Marine veteran, George Hood, also took part and he didn’t do too poorly himself — finishing at 7 hours and 40 minutes, and spending the rest of the time by Mao’s side, cheering him on.
Congrats to Mao for the new record, perhaps he could audition for a a live-action superhero flick, how about Captain China?
