Who knew a sofa could cause so much controversy? Then again, seventeen pieces of furniture that took nine years to make from twenty tonnes of Rosewood with the help of fifty artisans isn’t going to be cheap, right?
But perhaps 198 million RMB is a bit much?
According to Sina, the pieces were actually put up for sale in 2011. In the five years since they’ve generated no buyers but tons of criticism.
“I’m an oil painter. I know just from looking that this furniture uses inferior quality paints,” one netizen commented.
“The price tag doesn’t equal the value. Yesterday, up on the mountain, I picked up a rock. I estimate it is more than 4 billion years old, I am selling it for a hundred billion RMB, whoever wants it had better come quick,” wrote another.
“If nobody else wants it, I’ll give you 198 RMB for it?” offered another web user.
But hey, that hasn’t stopped anyone from sitting on them. Hope they feel nice, guys. 198 million RMB nice?
If you break it, you buy it.
