Legendary British actor Sir Ian McKellen, known worldwide for his roles as Gandalf and Magneto, was spotted yesterday trying his luck at the People’s Square marriage market.
In photos posted to Weibo by the British Council, McKellen can be seen holding up a sign listing details about his height, age, education and all-important housing status. We can’t help but think that mentioning his $55 million net worth wouldn’t have hurt his chances either.
McKellen is in China for the star-studded Shanghai International Film Festival, which kicked off yesterday at the Shanghai Grand Theater, as part of a major program of events and activities to celebrate Shakespeare’s work on the 400th anniversary of his death.
While he may be best known for his portrayal of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, the festival will also showcase his role as one of the most acclaimed Shakespearean actors.
Over the past month the six-time Laurence Olivier Award winner has been photoed around China holding up placards, each emblazoned with a quote from one of Shakespeare’s plays.
Photos being shared on WeChat also reportedly show the actor visiting Destination, one of Beijing’s most popular gay clubs.
