A surveillance camera caught some insane footage of a robbery gone awry last week in Virginia, when the Chinese American restaurant owner decided that rather than let the perp take her hard-earned money, she’d just take his gun instead.
Keqiu Wang, owner of Crazy Wings in Norfolk, was behind the register when an armed robber in a hoodie burst in and pointed a gun at her, demanding all the money from the cash register. Wang told WAVY News that because the robber hadn’t bothered to cover up his face and because his gun looked so old, she believed that the firearm was fake. When she sensed her opportunity, she tried to grab it from him.
Her husband, Jiamde Lin, then rushed in from the kitchen with a cleaver to help his wife. While they were struggling over the gun, he left two deep cuts in the robber’s shoulder before he fled the shop.
Now in possession of the gun, Wang decided to see if it was real, pointing at the floor behind the register and pressing the trigger. The surveillance camera catches her look of astonishment after the handgun actually goes off.
19-year-old Jabri Brown was later caught by police, taken to the hospital and then placed into custody for robbery, attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Wang told reporters that it made her sad that the robber was just a teenager.
“I hope he can change something,” she said. “I hope he doesn’t do it anymore.”
