1997 and 2016, then and now, what has changed? Well, quite a lot.
Take Deng Youdi for instance, a recent graduate from Sichuan Agricultural University, who posted a batch of photos to Weibo recently showing her striking the same pose around campus as she did 19 years ago.
Here’s her sitting back to back with her dad:
The awkward duckling has grown into a beautiful swan:
Hiding behind the same pillar with her mom. They look an awful lot like sisters now, don’t they?
Wait! Deng managed to find the same panda, but it’s not in the same place. Suppose a lot can change in 19 years, even for a decorative panda.
Also in that time, the library has become the arts building. At least they changed the sign on the building, no telling if there was a makeover inside. What hasn’t changed is that the mom still can’t take her eyes off her daughter.
Her pose hasn’t changed, but which country controls Hong Kong has.
And the university has got itself some new stairs, but less grass.
Once half her height, the little girl has grown up to be a hair taller than her mom.
Deng may have been inspired by a recent viral campaign asking web users to recreate their favorite childhood snapshots in honor of Children’s Day. The caption for her post reads: “1997 vs. 2016, the little countryside girl has grown up.” You might say the same thing about the country as well?
