Summer is too hot to jog? Not if you follow your heart.
That’s how one guy surnamed Liu ended up jogging 222.48 km, all the way around Beijing’s 6th Ring Road, becoming just the second person to ever do so.
Liu, from Chongqing, said that the longest distance he ran before this was 53.18, so he prepared hard for the tough journey ahead, Btime.com reports
We all push ourselves to jog for different reasons. Earlier this year, Mark Zuckerberg jogged through the smog in Tiananmen Square after failing for years to get Facebook unblocked in China. Liu had an ever better reason. “Doing things you like, you’ll also meet people you like,” he reasoned, christening his journey with the theme: “For belief and for her.”
He started out at 10:17 p.m. on June 17th.
By 12:56 a.m., he realized that while it was much cooler to jog at night, there was the problems of dozens of stray dogs prowling along his way.
Still, he kept jogging.
Along the way, he got several fellow joggers from Beijing to support him.
And survived on some light snacks. Mustard Root Spiced, the breakfast of champions.
On June 19th, Liu took a power nap to prepare to make a final push to the finish line.
By that afternoon, the temperature had already rose above 35 degrees Celsius and Liu had to lay down and use ice to cool down his legs.
Despite the scorching temperatures, Liu finally completed his journey at 7:27 p.m. on June 19th, 45 hours and 10 minutes after he set off.
But he doesn’t seem to have found love. Maybe she’s on the Fifth Ring Road?
