The magician behind many of these works, Lee Mei-chen, who used to be a hairdresser, but now says that she finds pet grooming much more satisfying than styling human hair, because it allows her more room for creativity.
Her interest was sparked after watching on TV as someone trimmed words into a golden retriever’s fur. Inspired, she began practicing trimming simple motifs, such as heart and bone shapes. Once, the owner of a fierce mixed breed dog asked her trim something into the pooch’s fur that would warn people not to touch it. Lee went with a skull.
The owner absolutely loved the design and that inspired Lee to experiment with even more wacky ones, ETtoday reports.
“Whenever I take a look at the final products, I can’t help but feel proud,” she told reporters.
Ou Shih-jou, the owner of Igogo, the pet salon where Lee works, once heard customers complaining that they wanted something more out of the ordinary than just the usual shave for their pets, Reuters reports. To cater to her customers’ needs, she too began to experiment.
“When a cat is angry, she will arch her back, which makes it look like a living stegosaurus with its spiky spine,” Ou said about one of her signature creations.
While owners may love the salon’s work, not all pets are fans. “The dog itself and its cooperation determine the result,” Lee explained. The simplest patterns take half an hour to finish, while the most difficult ones might require three hours. Fluffy and hairy dogs are the most suitable, while dog breeds like Maltese, Yorkshire terrier and the like are less so, TA News reported.
So, what do you think? Adorable or horrifying?
