A video has popped up on the Chinese internet showing a foreign woman being stopped by Chinese police from BASE jumping off a bridge in Hunan, and then doing it anyway, 30 minutes later.
According to The Paper, the bridge in question is the Aizhai Bridge near Jishou city. The suspension bridge spans 1,145 meters at 336 meters above the ground — making it the seventh-highest bridge and fifteenth-longest suspension bridge in the world. In the past, it has regularly hosted international BASE jumping festivals, but jumping off the bridge does require a permit.
Which this woman did not have. But no matter, after being forcefully held back by police, she manages to sneak her way to the edge just 30 minutes later. She then jumps off and soon pulls her ripcord, safely parachuting down onto a rice field below.
There are no reports about who the woman is, where she comes from or if she will be punished. Many netizens have argued online that if the woman was Chinese, there would be harsh consequences. Hopefully, this incident doesn’t mean more seminars for foreigners here.
