This summer, the hottest new trend in Xi’an among middle-aged and elderly ladies is to lie on hot rocks in order to restore your health. In the city, wherever there is a big rock, a few old ladies can be spotted leaning against it, lying on top of it or even hugging it under the blazing sun.
While many women apparently enjoy this type of treatment, men seem to find the rocks uncomfortably hot, reports Shaanxi Daily. One woman described that while she and her mother comfortably rested on the hot rocks, her husband refused to participate because the rocks felt scorching hot to him. Other men who walked by made similar comments after touching the rocks.
One lady, who was at least 70 years old, told Shaanxi Daily that she lay on one rock for too long and a boil appeared on her abdomen. She did not find this remedy to be very effective.
And she’s right. A doctor from Xi’an said that this treatment couldn’t really do much. Another doctor claimed that some heat treatments from Chinese medicine can improve a body’s health condition, but folk remedies are not to be trusted. Lying on hot rocks under the sun may also result in burns, boils and heat strokes, the doctor added. Cancer too, you would assume.
Of course, the proper way to use rocks to improve your fitness and health is to walk around with one balanced on top of your head.
