Is there anything stronger than a tornado? Yup, love.
Because when a tornado ripped through Jiangsu province last week, six teachers at a local kindergarten risked their lives, using their bodies to shield their 120 students from harm.
Last Thursday afternoon, a strong tornado, accompanied by lightning, torrential rain and hail tore through Yancheng city, leaving 98 people dead and over 800 injured. When the tornado suddenly struck at around 2:30 p.m., 120 kids were in class at a local kindergarten. With barely any time to think, the teachers threw themselves at the doors, bracing them shut to prevent any of their children from getting caught up in the storm, Sina reports.
Of the 120 children at the school, five suffered minor injuries while only two were severely hurt. Regardless of their own injuries, the teachers rushed their students to the hospital and let them receive treatment first.
Watch a news report from Sohu:
The teachers acted not only out of their responsibility for their students’ safety, but also because of their love for the kids. In the past, we’ve seen other teachers show how much they care for their students, by staying on as the only teacher at a rural elementary school for six years or by continuing to teach even through life-threatening illnesses.
“Thanks to these six brave and considerate teachers, young lives were saved”, one netizen praised.
“They are the real heroes for kids!” commented another netizen.
